Students lifting up the name of Jesus

Discipleship

In today’s day and age Jr. and Sr. High school students face great challenges and difficulties more than ever before in the history of our nation and our culture. Christian kids especially have even greater difficulty when it comes to living in this environment and trying to reconcile everything they see around them with the fnt.jpg biblical beliefs they have been raised with and their personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is our heart’s desire to guide students into deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, His Word, prayer and fellowship. Our student discipleship program, also known as “The Friday Night Thing” (FNT) was created specifically for this purpose. Calvary Chapel Placerville has set aside Friday evenings at the church as a time for students to come together for fellowship, prayer and small group discussion over God’s Word.

Our focus is to teach students to study God’s Word in such away that they may actually learn to apply it to daily living through reading, journalling and prayer. We do this by instructing them on how to read the text, observe the facts, interpret what God is teaching in the context of the passage, and apply it to daily living through prayer. Our time in the small groups is spent instructing them in them methods of doing this as well as discussing the application on a personal level. We place a strong emphasis on encouraging students to not only do this on Friday nights with us, but to build this into their lives as an everyday discipline.

Our goal is simple in that we hope to see two things happen in the lives of the students before they graduate High School. The first is that each teenager would build a life long discipline of daily devotions that have substance so that they may grow intimately in their relationship with Jesus. The second is ensure that they have a basic understanding of how to look at scripture in context and apply it correctly.

Lastly, we desire to provide students with a safe and fun environment so they may have a chance to hang out and enjoy fellowship with one another and with their adult leaders through occasional outings and events that provide social interaction.
