Thursday July 9, 2009:
Today is Thursday and we are now safe and sound in Red Bluff Ca. After leaving boot camp yesterday we stopped by the church to repack, re-group, freshen up and have Pastor Nick pray for us before hitting the road.
The drive to Red Bluff was fairly uneventful. We arrived at the Calvary Chapel in Red Bluff shortly after worship had started and were invited in to listen to Pastor Gil teach on Romans 2:1-16. The message (or at least what I heard of the message) was very fitting. Pastor Gil encouraged those listening to believe what they are sharing with non-believers.
A few minutes into the teaching, one of our students started to have chest pains and her heart began to race. This is a pre-existing condition known as tacta cardia and I have had to deal with this before. Usually, her heart stops racing in 5 to 10 minutes and she is ok. Last night it lasted for about and hour, so an ambulance was called and we got to ride over to the ER. She was pretty much stabilized by the time we arrived.
It was about not until about 10:00 PM after all the tests and blood work came back, that she was finally released. Needless to say, it was an interesting evening, especially at the ER. It would be foolish to think that despite all of the contributing physical conditions, that there was not some sort of spiritual element to this. It was a reminder to me, of how fragile we really are and how much we need to be in continual prayer for protection on these trips as well as exercising good judgement.
One of the benefits of this was how it had united the group to pray. Our kids came together and prayed for over an hour and passionately. Some of the kids did not even want to stop…
Tonight, we are preparing for outreach in downtown Red Bluff. We will be doing dramas, street sharing and passing out flyers for the Heaven’s Gate Hell’s Flame play that Calvary Red Bluff will be hosting later.
Please continue to keep us in prayer for safety, health, discernment, boldness and wisdom. If you would like a list of all who are on the trip so that you may pray for us individually, you may contact Lynn at Calvary Chapel Placerville.
Below is a short video of a song the kids made up at the end of boot camp…
